Creating Welcoming Breastfeeding Practices – with Certification Recognition

August is National Breastfeeding Month, and WCSS is happy to announce the hiring of a related position, a Healthy Living Contractor, to advance the health of our youngest children.

The Healthy Living Contractor works in collaboration with our Healthy Initiatives Program Coordinator, providing quarterly trainings on health topics and working with families and early care and education centers to promote family engagement and healthy environments for young children. One area of focus is helping programs create breastfeeding-friendly environments.

As part of the Shape NC* holistic approach to health, sites are supported in obtaining a North Carolina Breastfeeding-Friendly Child Care Designation. To reach this goal, the Healthy Living Contractor provides on-site consultations and trainings, helps create policies and physical spaces that support breastfeeding accommodations, and works with teachers to identify classroom materials like books and toys to normalize breastfeeding..
