Better Together - with YOU!

What a special treat it was to (socially-distance) celebrate our community partners in early childhood at Better Together 2020! In this year like no other, you have been called upon in ways you couldn't imagine. Thank you to all who give yourselves to this work, putting the future of our children first every day. Whether you were with us physically or not, please know that we honor your contributions and appreciate your dedication.

Below, some of our WCSS staff share their thoughts and gratitude looking back on this year and the extraordinary efforts you all have made to stay connected with families. It's clear to see, we truly are better together.

Gayle E. Headen

Executive Director

This year we experienced a public health crisis the likes of which we have never seen. In the midst of this, it was incredibly inspiring and heart-warming to see how our funded partners rose to this particular occasion. Many families are still struggling, but we are better positioned to meet these needs when we all work together.

- Program Coordination & Evaluation

We are grateful to the early childhood professionals who have continued to provide services for children and families during these unprecedented times. You have been essential.

- Pre-Kindergarten

Thank you to the many individuals and community partners for your continued commitment to and support of all our early literacy programs. Together we are able to help young children in Wake County build their own home libraries, develop and grow emergent literacy skills, and foster a love of reading.

- Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

We want to thank all the early care and education professionals for your resilience during this difficult period. You made a huge difference in our community, and we do not think that we could ever tell you how much that meant. Thank you for brightening the world of the little ones.

- Early Childhood Initiatives

Many thanks to all our early childhood partners for continuing to serve and support families through all the changes and stress that 2020 has brought. You have shown compassion, flexibility, and dedication to both your work with children and families as well as facilitating community collaboration and system-level improvement work.

- Wake Connections

We are appreciative of all the adjustments our partners have made during the pandemic to maintain compliance with grant requirements. Everyone is always willing to do what it takes, and that’s true partnership.

- Finance Department

It is such an honor to work with community members who care so much about others, especially Wake County’s smallest citizens. We appreciate the opportunity to share information, resources, and services with you and the families you support. Thank you for partnering with us, and we look forward to building on our work together in 2021!

- Community Outreach

Save the date for #GivingTuesday!

2020 has reminded us what a gift it is to feel connected. This #GivingTuesday, we'll highlight the importance of those connections for children in the earliest years of their lives.

Please save the date for Tuesday, December 1st, and give to make a connection for a young child.
