Male Role Models in the Classroom |
June is the month we celebrate Father's Day, but we know the importance of positive male role models for our children all year long! |
How can you help fathers be more involved in their child's class?
Who are the men in your classroom or at your center your children can look up to? If you don't have any male teachers (like many child care centers), who in your community can you invite to visit and share their story?
We've got inspiring male role models in early childhood right here in Wake County! Read on and meet Marvin Brown of Kiddie Academy in Holly Springs and James Bullock of Childcare Network in Fuquay-Varina. Thanks, fellas!
-
Marvin Brown, Kiddie Academy: "Even when you're having a bewildering, down day, seeing the kids is the most uplifting part of my day. You don't get that in other parts of life."
-
James Bullock, Childcare Network: "I know 100 years from now, there will still be families of children whose lives I’ve touched, who will remember the books I’ve read with them, the pictures I’ve drawn with them…, and they’ll still remember my name."

What kinds of activities can be part of "quality time?"
- Teachable and fun memories - take time to do fun activities, like walks together, riding bikes, or reading a story
- Focus on your child's everyday needs - it's great to do fun things with your child, but don't forget about the everyday things like bedtime routines and making snacks
- Learning the value of being a good friend and a contributing community member
What about male role models besides fathers? Single mothers who work to provide the best growth and development of their children can seek to enroll them in organizations, teams, and clubs that provide them with much needed support from male leaders.
