Child Care Centers & Public Health

WCSS supports healthy development of young children as one of the pillars of a strong foundation, alongside high quality learning experiences and having a strong family. WCSS-funded programs provide safety and nutrition consultation, records management support, and health improvement plans - work that supports the individual child and their families, center health, and the health of our larger community. What is WCSS's role in supporting good health for children and the larger community?

New Board Member Announcement

We are excited to announce our newest board member, Katherine Williams! Katherine is the Cooperative Extension Director for Wake County, and she brings great experience to the WCSS Board of Directors.

"I am very honored to be serving on the Wake County Smart Start Board. As the Extension Director in Wake County, I am aware of the tremendous leadership that WCSS has provided in our community related to early childhood education. Their example has helped to ignite collective impact efforts across this community and their commitment to being a good partner has led to many effective collaborations, including Farm to Child Care and Building Community Resilience. I am proud that our local Smart Start lives into a vision to support families and to address the root causes or social determinants of health. The Board, the Executive Director, and the entire staff are unapologetically passionate about our littlest community members, and this enthusiasm is contagious."

Your Support Matters!

Your support of WCSS makes sure our children are getting the attention to health they need. It brings new mothers reassurance and advice about breastfeeding when they feel like they're failing at feeding their new baby. And it can make sure each child, in every community, is ready for school and life.
