Week of the Young Child Inspiration for YOU!

This year is the 50th anniversary of Week of the Young Child! We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than going directly to the experts: our local early childhood educators! Below, you'll see a different center sharing some of their plans for each day of this wonderful week. You can use their ideas for inspiration or copy them in your own center or at home! After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

P.S. Make sure to follow along on social media April 12-16 as we continue to highlight our community's activities! Tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter so we can share your own ideas!

Music Monday

Music Monday is brought to you by

The Goddard School of Raleigh (Ridge Road)!

The Goddard School of Raleigh will be partnering with KidsTunes for virtual music classes with all of their classrooms in addition to making Maracas using recycled plastic eggs, plastic spoons, beans, and colorful duct tape! Mondays are also the days they do Zid Zid Spanish lessons and have included Musica and Maraca for the special occasion. The afternoon "snacktivity" is pretzels and mini marshmallows. The children can put a marshmallow on one end of the pretzel stick to create a drum stick

Visit NAEYC's website for more ideas to celebrate Music Monday.

Tasty Tuesday

Tasty Tuesday is brought to you by Alphabet Community Academy!

Alphabet Community Academy, a family child care home, will be baking a special bread together from Eritrea/Ethiopia, called ambasha. They will tie in math concepts, with measuring ingredients and counting steps, then go outside to share the food in the fresh air. They will also have national clothes in the dramatic play area the children can wear and sing some traditional songs.

Visit NAEYC's website for more ideas to celebrate Tasty Tuesday.

Work Together Wednesday

Work Together Wednesday is brought to you by Temple Beth Or Preschool!

Temple Beth Or Preschool (TBOP) values cooperation and provides regular opportunities for children to work toward a common goal.  Games, puzzles, building toys, classroom jobs, and community projects all give children lots of practice in working together! TBOP acknowledges spontaneous cooperation both informally in their classrooms and as a community during their weekly Preschool Shabbat service. For Work Together Wednesday, TBOP classes will participate in a project that reflects their Jewish value of the month, Shomrei Adamah (Guardians of the Earth). TBOP has several plant beds outside the classrooms and the children will be working to plant flowers, vegetables, and herbs for their school!

Visit NAEYC's website for more ideas to celebrate Work Together Wednesday.

Artsy Thursday

Artsy Thursday is brought to you by TLC!

For their Artsy Thursday project, TLC will be making Glowing Fireflies made from recycled materials! The recycled materials they plan to use are newspapers, cardboard, and plastic bottles. The children will be cutting out newspaper to wrap on the fireflies' bottle bodies, using carboard as wings, and glowsticks will go inside the bodies.

Visit NAEYC's website for more ideas to celebrate Artsy Thursday.

Fitness Friday

Fitness Friday is brought to you by

Kiddie Academy of Morrisville!

Kiddie Academy of Morrisville will be learning all about ways to keep their bodies healthy for play and learning (while playing and learning)!

There will be animal yoga on the playground, and active play all day! The children will be tending to their school garden, The Veggie Village. Soon it will be time for harvesting and enjoying the veggies and herbs that are starting to grow there. Classes will explore literature about healthy eating, including some favorite books like Growing Vegetable Soup and Eating the Alphabet, both by Lois Ehlert. Finally, the children will make some fruit and veggie inspired art to encourage trying new and tasty foods that are good for our brains and bodies!

Visit NAEYC's website for more ideas to celebrate Fitness Friday.
