WCSS 20th Anniversary Celebration

In 1996, visionaries in Wake County set out to establish Wake County Smart Start, intent on mobilizing a community of partners focused on one goal: getting young children ready for Kindergarten and life beyond. The research was just emerging, but was promising — when children that need support are reached early, they flourish. Now, with hundreds of studies showing the long term benefits, early education investments are regarded as the keystone strategy for building better educational and quality of life outcomes.

Thousands of children later, we come together to reflect on the work of those 20 years, and what lies ahead. Our 20th Anniversary Celebration reflects the diversity and breadth of our work.
