Wake County SmartStart Committee to tackle child care subsidy issues
Wake County SmartStart recently invited more volunteers to join the organization's Subsidy Policy Committee. The committee meets to discuss subsidy policy issues and review Wake County Human Service's subsidy priorities. Wake County SmartStart supports one-third of the children, ages 0 to 5, that receive child care assistance with more than $8 million of annual funding.
The new volunteers, which include child advocates, early childhood professionals and child care providers, will help educate and engage legislators, civic leaders, child care providers and the business community about the subsidy funding shortage in Wake County and across the state.
The group will be working to implement several strategies to bring awareness for lack of federal and state subsidy funding to support low-income working families with very young children.
Wake County SmartStart would like to offer a special thanks to the following committee members, new and longstanding, for their working on behalf of young children:
Natasha Adwaters, Wake County Human Services; Cynthia Chamblee, Project Enlightenment; Gloria Cook, Wake County Human Services; Regina Crooms, Capital Area Workforce Development; Judy Gardiner, Judy's Home Child Care; Elizabeth Hudgins, Action for Children North Carolina; Michele Miller, Children's Discovery Space; Joyce Robinson, Happy Face Preschool; Sue Russell, Child Care Services Association; Keisha Sanders, Raleigh Nursery School; and Lara Siffer, Primary Beginnings.
