May 2006

Dear Friend of Wake County SmartStart,

Welcome to the latest edition of the Wake County SmartStart e-Newsletter.  In this issue we're focusing on advocacy.

With the opening of 2006 legislative session (May 8), we bring you timely information on Keep the Promise, an advocacy event happening at the Legislature next Tuesday May, 23 from 10-11:30 a.m.

In the spirit of Child Care Provider Appreciation Day (May 12), we spotlight an early childhood educator, Mary McGinnis, who was inspired by Wake County SmartStart funded Professional Development Planning for Child Care Providers. The program, delivered by Child Care Services Association, continues to support her efforts in earning a degree in Early Childhood Education.

We also chat to a longtime child advocate Karen Ray and offer tips to advocate on behalf of young children.

Thank you for supporting Wake County SmartStart! Have a wonderful May!
