Child Care Program Quality Supplements provide monthly supplement payments to eligible 4- and 5-star centers and homes that serve children on subsidy to maintain or incentivize improvement in program quality. Eligibility and payment amounts are based on criteria developed by the Wake County SmartStart Board of Directors. Monitoring of quality practices will occur monthly through review of licensing data and submission of requested documentation. Facilities may be referred to programs that will help them improve or maintain their quality. Application support, referrals and monitoring components are provided by Child Care Services Association.

Related Programs

NC Pre-Kindergarten

NC Pre-K provides children with a high-quality classroom program to help four-year olds get ready for Kindergarten. Children attend Pre-K for 6.5 hours each day, Monday through Friday.

Improving and Sustaining Quality Child Care is a program in the Quality Enhancement Department within Wake County SmartStart.

WAKE Up and Read

The WAKE Up and Read – School Readiness effort is focused on coordinating and aligning early literacy efforts in Wake County.

LINKS (Literacy Invites and Nurtures Kids' Success)

Through LINKS, early childhood educators receive literacy training. Following training, each early childhood educator will also receive three to seven individual, on-site mentoring visits.

Child Care Health Consultant Program

The Child Care Health Consultant Program provides on-site health, safety, and nutrition consultation in child care facilities.

Assuring Better Child Health and Development (ABCD)

ABCD is an evidence-informed intervention and nationally-recognized model that trains pediatric primary care physicians and their staff to perform routine developmental and autism-specific screenings and connects children ages birth to 5 years old with specialized therapies and other early interventions services.

Administrator/Quality Development Project

The Administrator Quality Development Project has two components. Directors can apply to participate in the Wake Directors’ Leadership Academy or the Accreditation project.
