Wake County's More at Four Pre-Kindergarten program is working to provide high quality early educational experiences for 4-year-olds who are not attending preschool for various reasons. The program is community-based, voluntary, and designed to prepare 4-year-olds in Wake County for success in school.

Wake County SmartStart administers the program in Wake County, and works in collaboration with the Wake County Public School System, early childhood professionals and Wake County Human Services. The More at Four program operates in 36 child care facilities across Wake County with smaller class sizes to prepare children for kindergarten.

Your child might qualify to participate in the Wake County More at Four Program if:

  • Your child is not currently enrolled in a preschool program
  • Your child turns 4 years on or before August 31, 2008 (for the 2008-2009 school year)
  • Your child has health concerns or special needs
  • Your family qualifies for financial assistance
  • English is your child's second language
